Authentic Minang Rendang Flavours Go Global Thanks to BRI Empowerment
A simple concern became the starting point for the birth of Rabundo, an instant Padang spice business that is now penetrating the national market. Originating from a desire to restore pride in authentic Indonesian flavours, Rabundo has become proof that the spirit of MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) entrepreneurs, combined with proper mentorship, can pave the way to wider markets.
The business, founded by Tika Hayana in 202 ม in Kekiling Village, Penengahan District, South Lampung Regency, was born from an experience many might consider trivial. “Rabundo started from the founder’s concern after seeing rendang spices on supermarket shelves that were imported from neighbouring countries,” Tika stated in an official statement on Sunday (2/8/2026).
As a native of Minangkabau, this sight raised a significant question in her mind: why one of Indonesia’s culinary icons was being produced more extensively by foreign parties. This concern transformed into a determination to present authentic Minang rendang spices capable of competing in the market. However, building a business from scratch was not an easy journey.
In addition to ensuring the authentic taste of rendang, Tika also had to consider how her products could be accepted by the market, establish a strong identity, and meet various legal requirements to remain competitive. Amidst the process of developing the business, Tika’s relationship with BRI had been established since 2023 when she became a customer.
When Rabundo began operations in 2025, she utilised BRI’s QRIS as a transaction solution to support business operations. The ease of transaction helped Rabundo serve customer payments more practically, quickly, and safely. For a growing business, transaction efficiency is a crucial factor in maintaining operational smoothness and providing a more comfortable shopping experience for customers.
BRI’s support for Rabundo’s journey continued. Upon the recommendation of a fellow MSME entrepreneur, Tika joined Rumah BUMN BRI Bakauheni to obtain mentorship for business development. “I first learned about Rumah BUMN BRI Bakauheni from a friend who was already a member. They suggested I join because there are many benefits to improving business performance, ranging from legality facilities to training and bazaars,” she recalled.
Through continuous mentorship and hard work, Rabundo has grown rapidly. The business now employs three employees and markets its flagship product, rendang spice, through various modern retailers in Bandar Lampung as well as marketplaces that reach consumers across Indonesia.
This decision proved to be a turning point for Rabundo. Amidst the various challenges faced by MSMEs during the early stages of development, Tika not only gained access to various capacity-building programmes but also found a space for learning and networking with other entrepreneurs sharing the same growth mindset. Various training sessions provided by Rumah BUMN BRI helped Rabundo strengthen its business foundation, including business capacity enhancement, legality facilitation, and opportunities to expand markets through promotional activities.
“The role of Rumah BUMN BRI Bakauheni for Rabundo is very evident. Recently, Rabundo was selected as an MSME facilitated for nutritional value calculations in collaboration with SIG, and others were also facilitated to obtain trademark certificates for free,” she said.
For Tika, this support goes far beyond mere administrative assistance. Business legality, trademark certification, and nutritional information are essential tools for her products to meet the standards required by modern markets. She is optimistic that Rabundo can continue to grow without losing its core identity as an authentic-tasting rendang spice.
“The advantage of Rabundo is its premium, authentic taste and practicality; no additional spices are needed,” she emphasised.
In a separate statement, the Director of Micro BRI, Akhmad Purwakajaya, stated that through Rumah BUMN, BRI provides a space for MSMEs to learn, exchange experiences, expand networks, and access various business development opportunities. This mentorship is expected to help MSMEs build stronger business foundations to achieve sustainable growth.
“When MSMEs are able to scale up, the benefits are felt not only by the entrepreneurs themselves but also create a broader economic impact. Increased business capacity will drive production increases, create jobs, and stimulate the economic activities of the surrounding community,” Akhmad concluded.
