Australian Woman Uses Cannabis Liquid to Treat Depression and Knee Pain
An Australian woman, BC, has admitted to using cannabis liquid in a vape to treat knee pain and depression.
“The individual claimed to have health issues, specifically pain in both knees, and had previously experienced depression. To alleviate the pain, she used this liquid as a form of treatment, and she stated that she had been using it for some time,” said the Head of the Narcotics Unit of the North Lombok Police, Adjunct Commissioner of Police I Nyoman Diana Mahardika, in North Lombok, Thursday, June 4, 2026.
However, Diana confirmed that this explanation would not be considered a mitigating factor for BC.
He emphasized that the legal process would continue according to the regulations prohibiting the use of cannabis in any form.
The regulations regarding the prohibition and criminalization of cannabis use, which is still classified as a Class I narcotic, are outlined in Indonesian Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.
Therefore, BC will still be processed legally for possessing several bottles of vape liquid containing natural compounds derived from cannabis extract.
“According to the Narcotics Law and the latest Criminal Code, possessing or misusing Class I narcotics, in this case, not in plant form but as a liquid, is illegal, so we will continue the legal process according to the applicable laws,” he said.
In this case, BC has been designated as a suspect and is being detained at the North Lombok Police detention center.
Nyoman Diana confirmed that the evidence, the cannabis liquid seized from BC’s rented house in the Batulayar area, West Lombok Regency, on May 25, 2026, was only for personal use.
“So far, it has been revealed that it was only for personal consumption; there is no indication that she was distributing or providing this product (liquid) to others,” he said.
Therefore, in designating BC as a suspect, the police applied Article 609, paragraph (2) of Indonesian Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code and/or Article 127 of Indonesian Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.
This case involving the Australian woman first came to light through information indicating the existence of a package containing a new type of narcotic intended for delivery to Gili Trawangan, North Lombok Regency.
