Australian PM Calls Prabowo, Describes Indonesia-Australia as Close Friends
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese held a telephone call with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Tuesday afternoon (21/4/2026).
In a post on X @albomp, Albanese highlighted the closeness of Indonesia-Australia relations.
“Strong relationships in our region are more important than ever before, and we are the closest of friends,” Albanese stated in his post, quoted from a release by Indonesia’s Government Communication Agency (Bakom) on Thursday (23/4/2026).
Additionally, Albanese and Prabowo discussed developments in the conflict situation in the Middle East region and its impact on the area.
He also affirmed that both countries are committed to ensuring that domestic essential needs supplies remain secure.
“Australia and Indonesia are working together to support the smooth flow of essential goods and to strengthen our energy supply chain resilience for the future,” Albanese said.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya previously revealed that PM Albanese conveyed appreciation for President Prabowo’s approval regarding the export.
“PM Albanese conveyed appreciation for Mr President’s approval related to the export of Indonesian urea fertiliser to Australia amounting to 250,000 tonnes in the first phase,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya in his statement.
