Canberra (ANTARA) - Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Monday that he wants to see the continuation of peace negotiations between the United States (US) and Iran as well as the end of the conflict in the Middle East. He made the statement in a television interview with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation when asked about the US President Donald Trump’s announcement regarding the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Albanese wants to see “the realisation of permanent peace, the achievement of de-escalation, no more civilian lives lost, the end of damage to civilian infrastructure, and most importantly, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz with freedom of navigation.” He stated that Australia has not been asked to join the US blockade in the Strait of Hormuz. Australia also hopes that freedom of navigation can be restored in that important trade route.
