Australian journalist robbed

JAKARTA: Australian journalist Claire Harvey was robbed on Tuesday afternoon near the office of TEMPO weekly on Jl. Proklamasi in Central Jakarta.

Harvey got out of a taxi and was about 20 meters from the TEMPO office when she was approached by two men at about 1:50 p.m. One of the men grabbed her purse while the other threatened her with a knife.

"I was so stunned that I am unaware of how it happened," Harvey told The Jakarta Post.

She lost her mobile phone, a notebook and US$100 cash, though she felt lucky that she was able to retrieve her wallet when it fell out of her purse.

"I still have my credit cards and my wallet," she said.

A security guard from TEMPO and two security guards from nearby offices, as well as passersby, chased after the two criminals but to no avail.

The police arrived at the scene an hour later, and they asked Harvey to come to the Jakarta Police Headquarters by Wednesday to file a criminal report. --JP
