Australian FM arrives tomorrow

JAKARTA: Australian foreign minister Gareth Evans is scheduled
to arrive here tomorrow at the end of his regional tour, which
includes Malaysia and Brunei.

During his two-day stay here Evans will meet with Indonesian
counterpart Ali Alatas and Coordinating Minister for Industry and
Trade Hartarto.

"He (Evans) is expected to discuss multilateral and bilateral
issues," the Australian embassy said in a statement here
yesterday.

It is expected that Evans will brief Alatas on the latest
developments in Portugal's suit against Australia at the
International Court of Justice in The Hague concerning the Timor
Gap.

Other current matters to be discussed may also include an
exchange of views on the upcoming nuclear Non-Proliferation
Treaty meeting in New York in April. (mds)
