Australian dies outside apartment

An Australian citizen was found dead on Wednesday morning in front of his apartment on the 10th floor of Senopati Apartments, Jl. Senopati, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, reportedly due to a heart attack.

The Australian, Michael Graham Lee, wearing pajamas and slippers, was found at around 6 a.m. by Ruslan, a driver of another tenant, whose room is next to Lee's.

"We think that he probably died of a heart attack as we found no sign of violence, intoxication or injury to his body," Kebayoran Baru chief of detectives First Insp. Robert De Deo said.

Robert added that police had also found in Lee's apartment some heart attack relief medication and a device to measure his heartbeat.

Witnesses said that Lee's chest was dark and swollen.

Robert said police took Michael's body to Cipto Mangunkusumo general hospital for an autopsy.

Robert said Michael Graham Lee worked as a geophysics specialist at CNOOC SES Ltd, a contractor for state oil and gas company Pertamina, at the Jakarta Stock Exchange building on Jl. Jend. Sudirman, South Jakarta.

He had rented the apartment since Jan. 10 this year.

Political party flags fly in Bogor

BOGOR: The 2004 election is still 10 months away, but many political parties have started their "campaign" by flying their flags in various parts of Bogor city and regency.

The flags were put up at strategic places last week.

Most of the flags belong to the six political parties that won most votes in the 1999 election: the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, Golkar, United Development Party, National Awakening Party, National Mandate Party, Crescent Star Party and the Justice Party.

Along Jl. Cilendek, for example, flags also flew from telegraph poles, creating the atmosphere of an election campaign.

"I reckon the political parties just cannot wait to gain power, while many people will become fed up with their lies during the campaign," said Usep, a local. --Antara

Ancol fireworks party waits for permit

JAKARTA: Ancol Dreamland, a recreation park in North Jakarta, plans to hold a fireworks display on the eve of Jakarta's 476th anniversary, but the organizing committee has not obtained the necessary permit.

"Hopefully the police permit will immediately be issued," said the park's deputy marketing director Waluyo on Tuesday.

Waluyo said that the organizing committee has prepared a 15- minute fireworks display with some 1,000 explosive fireworks. The party is the peak event to commemorate the Jakarta anniversary, which will also feature many local entertainers.

The fireworks display has become a tradition in Ancol during several major events like the New Year's Eve and Jakarta anniversary.

But the Jakarta Police require that event organizers should seek a permit from the police if they want to hold such an event.--Antara
