Australia opens AEC in Medan

MEDAN, North Sumatra: An Australian government official
inaugurated on Tuesday the Australian Education Center (AEC) in
Medan, North Sumatra.

The AEC was opened in response to increasing demand from
Indonesians wishing to study in Australia, said Australian
Education Minister Gary Hardgrave.

The minister said there were currently some 15,000 Indonesians
studying in Australia. The education center is the third to be
opened in the country, after similar centers in Jakarta and
Surabaya.

The Australian minister also presented scholarships to some
200 students affected by the tsunami and earthquake in Nias in
March this year. -- JP
