Canberra (ANTARA) – The Australian Government has warned its citizens against travelling to King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh following Houthi attacks in various parts of Saudi Arabia.

In an update issued through its Smartraveller service, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said Australians should reconsider the need to travel to Saudi Arabia because of the security situation in the country and the wider region.

“We are currently advising against travel to King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh due to recent security incidents that have disrupted airport operations,” it said.

The statement said military conflict in the region could lead to widespread movement restrictions, airspace closures and flight cancellations.

Australians who still choose to fly to King Khalid International Airport have been advised to reconfirm their flights with their airline or travel provider and minimise the time they spend at the airport.

“Remain vigilant, prioritise your safety, monitor events and follow local advice. Avoid military bases and energy infrastructure. In the event of an attack, move to enclosed shelter,” DFAT said.

The Australian Government has issued ‘do not travel’ warnings for the provinces of Asir, Jazan and Najran in southern Saudi Arabia, as well as any area within 30 kilometres of the border with Yemen.
