Australia in soccer tour
JAKARTA (JP): South Australia will arrive with its seven national soccer players during its tour of four Indonesian cities, where they will play international friendly matches, starting from June 25 in Surabaya, East Java.
The friendlies, held in conjunction with Australia Today'94 program, will see Alex Tobin, Milan Ivanovich, Stan Lazaridis, Tony Vidmar, Robbie Hooker and Greg Brown making up the crew for the Australian All-Stars national squad. They will be facing local challenges in the form of Surabaya All-Stars, PSIS Semarang, Persib Bandung and PSSI Selection, a blend of veterans and second string players who have joined the semi-professional league.
Australia was rated as a world, soccer powerhouse when it reached the final four round in the Barcelona Olympics and was an inch from ending Argentina's World Cup campaign last year. South Australia won the continent's soccer championship twice in the past three years. (amd)
