Aussie warns of possible attack

AUSTRALIA: Australia warned travellers on Wednesday of possible suicide bombings in the Indonesian capital after a warning was issued a day earlier by the Jakarta Metropolitan Police.

"The warning identifies as potential targets a number of places frequented by foreigners, in particular embassies, international schools, office buildings and shopping malls," the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs said on Wednesday.

"No timeframe is indicated ... but we assess that attacks could occur at any time. In addition, we continue to receive reports that terrorists in the region are planning attacks against a range of targets."

The warning was posted on the Australian government's travel website, www.smartraveller.gov.au.

A car bomb exploded outside the Australian Embassy in Jakarta on Sept. 9, 2004, killing 10 Indonesians and injuring more than 200 people, while 88 Australian were among the 202 killed in the Bali nightclub bombings in October 2002. -- Reuters
