SYDNEY (Reuter): Aurora Gold Ltd said on Wednesday it held
sufficient supplies at its Mount Muro mine in Indonesia's East
Kalimantan province to ride out a dry spell that has halted river
barge traffic to the site.
The water level of the Barito River has dropped to a level
that is unnavigable for large craft, including the ocean-going
barges used for the supply of stores to the mine site, it said.
"The operation is currently reliant upon the Barito River for
the supply of stores and accordingly carries inflated inventory
levels of most consumable items as a safeguard against prolonged
periods of low river levels," the company said.
Stocks of all consumables, other than diesel fuel, are
sufficient to maintain normal operations for at least three
months, it added.
