Aunt Reveals Alleged Burning of Students in Lombok Stemmed from Bullying
Three students at the Rosudatussaulatiyah Al Ibrahimy Islamic boarding school in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, were caught in a fire that resulted in one death. One of the victims, 13-year-old Sahid Al Hudri, sustained severe burns.
Nurul Hidayah, the aunt of Al, revealed that the incident was allegedly preceded by bullying by a 15-year-old suspect, identified by the initials MR, against another student. According to Nurul, the suspect had previously stripped one of the victims naked during play, an incident that was reported to the school leadership. Following this, the suspect allegedly threatened Al and other victims, stating they would be burned.
Nurul noted that while Al had mentioned these threats during a weekly family visit, she had dismissed them as mere childhood jokes. However, shortly after the visit, the family was summoned to a local health centre, where they discovered the severity of Al’s injuries.
According to the aunt, the incident occurred in an abandoned room. The suspects had allegedly intended to use petrol, originally purchased for painting, to burn wood to straighten pieces for making slingshots. The fire quickly spread after the petrol spilled, and the presence of mattresses in the room caused the flames to intensify rapidly.
While two students managed to escape, three others—ADR, SAH, and SS—became trapped when the door could not be opened from the inside. The victims were only rescued after other students forced the door open. One victim reported that their legs became stuck to the floor due to the heat.
The family has filed a report with the Central Lombok Police, citing a lack of responsibility from the boarding school management and the suspects regarding the victims’ medical treatment. The case gained widespread attention after videos of the injured victims went viral on social media. The incident is believed to have occurred in December 2025.
