Audit Board to Oversee Energy Security Programme via National Thematic Audit
The Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK) has designated energy security as the focus of its national thematic audit for the second half of 2026. This move is intended to oversee the priority development agenda of ‘Asta Cita’, particularly in the field of energy security.
BPK Chairperson Isma Yatun stated that energy is a primary pillar of national development, playing a crucial role in supporting economic growth, industrial sustainability, transport, agriculture, public services, and community welfare. Consequently, the BPK is committed to monitoring the management of the energy sector to ensure it is conducted accountably and transparently, so that its benefits can be felt by the wider public.
In preparing for this national thematic audit, the BPK is involving various stakeholders across the entire energy ecosystem, from policymakers to field implementers. Pre-Coordination and Coordination Meetings (Pra Rakor and Rakor) were held by the BPK on 29-30 July 2026 at the BPK Head Office.
The forum was attended by several key figures, including the Vice Chairman of Commission XII of the House of Representatives (DPR) Sugeng Suparwoto, Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas Rachmat Pambudy, CEO of BPI Danantara Rosan Roeslani, Head of BRIN Arif Satria, President Director of PLN Darmawan Prasodjo, Head of SKK Migas Djoko Siswanto, Member of the National Energy Council (DEN) Unggul Priyando, Inspector General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Yudhiawan, Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of BPI Danantara Pandu Sjahrir, Deputy President Director of Pertamina Oki Muraza, and various other stakeholders.
Isma noted that the energy security thematic audit will utilise a cross-cutting audit approach, viewing all actors in the energy value chain as a single, interconnected unit. “The BPK does not only want to know what is happening, but also to understand the root causes of problems, emerging risks, and the improvements required to ensure the system operates more effectively,” Isma said during the coordination meeting themed “Dignified and Beneficial BPK, BPK Supports the Energy Security Programme” on Friday (31/7/2026).
Meanwhile, BPK Vice Chairman Budi Prijono emphasised that a comprehensive understanding of the energy ecosystem is necessary to ensure that the processes of planning, budgeting, implementation, and supervision of energy security development truly benefit the public. “The BPK is present to ensure that policies, programmes, budgets, and state resources are managed accountably, efficiently, and effectively, providing the greatest possible benefit to the community,” said Budi.
In executing this national thematic audit, the BPK will deploy its best resources, strengthen cross-unit collaboration, and build a thorough understanding of the national energy ecosystem. Through these steps, the BPK hopes to produce recommendations that are relevant, implementable, and have a real impact on improving national energy governance.
