Auction of Electric and Hybrid Vehicles Rises 7 Percent in Q1/2026
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The market for electric and hybrid vehicles is beginning to show positive momentum in the auction industry during Q1/2026. Although their contribution remains small compared to conventional vehicles, the number of electrified vehicle units entering and being sold at auctions is starting to increase compared to the previous year. “In Q1/2026, the contribution of electric and hybrid vehicles has increased by up to 7 percent compared to Q1/2025,” said Chief Operating Officer of JBA Indonesia, Deny Gunawan, to Kompas.com on Wednesday (13/5/2026). This trend serves as a signal that electrified vehicles are gradually being accepted in the used car market, including through auction mechanisms. He added that the increase in the contribution of electrified vehicles demonstrates the beginning of the formation of a used electric and hybrid car market in Indonesia, particularly in major cities. “Nevertheless, sales of hybrid and electric cars are also starting to become more productive in auctions compared to Q1/2025,” he stated. The shift in consumer preferences appears to be related to the increasing population of electric and hybrid vehicles on the roads in recent years. In addition to the growing variety of models available, heightened awareness of fuel efficiency is also making used electrified vehicles increasingly attractive to consumers.
