Auction for 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz Frequencies Begins, Three Operators Join Selection
Three national mobile operators have begun competing for the 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz frequency spectrums being auctioned by the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi). In an official announcement from Kemkomdigi, the three operators have retrieved e-Auction system accounts on 29-30 April 2026. The order of account retrieval was based on the time of system access. With these accounts, the three operators can now download the frequency auction selection documents via the e-Auction system. Kemkomdigi explained that the document download process for selection is open from 29 April 2026 at 09:00 WIB until 7 May 2026 at 15:00 WIB. Operators who have downloaded the selection documents are then designated as prospective selection participants. Subsequently, these prospective participants can study the auction documents and submit written questions if there are any unclear aspects. These questions must be submitted via the e-Auction system no later than Friday, 8 May 2026 at 15:00 WIB, in PDF format signed by the president director, CEO, or an authorised director in accordance with the company’s articles of association. The 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz frequencies are highly sought after by operators due to their strategic value in improving mobile network quality, including fifth-generation or 5G mobile internet services. Meanwhile, the 2.6 GHz band is considered suitable for providing greater network capacity in areas with dense user populations. This frequency selection is also one of the government’s important steps in accelerating the development of the 5G ecosystem in Indonesia.
