Attorney General's Office Urges Presumption of Innocence Amid Police Searches

The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has responded to searches conducted by the National Police’s Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortastipidkor) and the Metro Jaya Police’s Special Criminal Investigation Directorate at 12 locations. Head of the AGO’s Legal Information Centre, Anang Supriatna, stressed that the AGO respects all ongoing investigative processes, stating that the actions fall under the full authority of the National Police. “The search activities currently taking place are legal actions carried out by police investigators in handling cases under the Police’s jurisdiction. Therefore, we respect the entire investigative process in accordance with statutory regulations,” Anang said in a statement on Thursday (9/7/2026). Anang added that the AGO is awaiting the final results of the police investigation, including regarding the objects searched, evidence seized, and parties linked to the case. He responded to the surge of public opinion on social media, particularly concerning the mention of the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes, Febrie Adriansyah. He urged the public not to jump to conclusions. “We urge the public not to form conclusions or opinions linking an individual or institution to alleged criminal acts based solely on information circulating in mass media or social media. All law enforcement processes must uphold the principle of the presumption of innocence,” he asserted. Anang also emphasised that the AGO deeply respects the independence and authority of every law enforcement officer on duty. The AGO believes that every legal step taken is based on valid evidence and applicable regulatory mechanisms. To prevent disinformation, he asked the public to always refer to official information from the law enforcement agency handling the case directly. “The Attorney General’s Office remains committed to supporting professional, objective, transparent, and accountable law enforcement by all law enforcement apparatus in accordance with their respective authorities, in order to realise legal certainty, justice, and benefit for the community,” Anang concluded.
