Attorney General's Office to Provide Legal and Technical Oversight for 2028 PON

The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) will provide assistance in technical planning, governance, and legal aspects for the organisation of the XXII/2028 National Sports Week (PON) in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) as hosts, with DKI Jakarta as a supporting region.

The Junior Attorney General for Civil and State Administration (Jamdatun), Narendra Jatna, stated that the prosecutor’s office would provide legal assistance and strengthen governance throughout all stages of the PON 2028 implementation to ensure no aspect contravenes the law.

“We will provide assistance and legal opinions through governance so that this becomes an integral part of ensuring the success of the XXII/2028 PON,” Narendra said at the Ministry of Youth and Sports office in Jakarta on Wednesday, following a coordination meeting with Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir, the Chairman of KONI, and representatives from the Development and Finance Comptroller (BPKP).

He explained that the assistance covers the planning, execution, and completion of all organisational stages to ensure the PON 2028 is conducted in accordance with legal provisions, transparently, and accountably.

Narendra added that the Attorney General’s Office would cooperate with the BPKP, specifically to ensure that every policy has undergone an adequate evaluation process.

He stressed that oversight is not solely focused on budgetary aspects but also includes planning, administration, implementation, and accountability of all activities to ensure they adhere to the principles of good governance.

The XXII/2028 PON will be held in NTB and NTT as the main hosts in November 2028. In addition to these two provinces, DKI Jakarta will also serve as a supporting region for several sports in the quadrennial national sporting event.
