Attorney General's Office to follow up on extortion allegations involving the Medan District Attorney's Office
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The spokesperson for the Attorney General’s Office (Kejaksaan) has responded to allegations of extortion that have implicated Ridwan Sujana Angsar, the head of the Medan District Attorney’s Office. Anang Supriatna said the allegations remain linked to facts disclosed during a trial in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and will be followed up internally by the prosecutors.
‘Yes, go ahead, but clearly the internal side of the prosecutor’s office will follow up because the incident occurred while the person concerned was in office,’ Anang told reporters on Thursday, 21 June 2026.
‘The oversight will come from the relevant Jurisdiction’s office there. We’ll just wait,’ he added.
Roni’s attorney, Fransisco Bessi, said the Supervisory Team of the High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati) Nusa Tenggara Timur has questioned two additional witnesses related to the alleged extortion.
‘On 19 May 2026, the Kejati via Aswas questioned two more people, namely Hironimus Sonbay alias Roni and Didik Hariyadi Brand,’ Fransisco said on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.
In that examination, Didik, who is the defendant in the 2022 school rehabilitation corruption case, reportedly confirmed communications with Roni about the replacement of money amounting to Rp25 million.
Evidence of WhatsApp chats dated 7 October 2022 and transfer documents were also handed to the examiner.
Moreover, Didik admitted communications with a prosecutor with initials RA who is suspected of referring to Ridwan Sujana Angsar.
One of the messages highlighted concerns efforts to obtain data about Roni.
‘All of that has been received by the examiner, so the statements of Roni, Didik, and the evidence of the conversations are deemed to be consistent,’ Fransisco said.
Additionally, in that examination Didik revealed allegations of payments to the prosecutor with initials RA.
The first payment is said to have been made through an aide amounting to around Rp5 million.’
