Attorney General's Office Takes Over Examination of Karo District Prosecutor's Office Head from North Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office in Amsal Sitepu Legal Process Case
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has taken over the examination of the head of the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office (kajari) and several other prosecutors from the North Sumatra High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati Sumut). This takeover is intended to guarantee objectivity in managing the Amsal Sitepu case.
Previously, an internal examination had been underway at Kejati Sumut regarding allegations of intimidation. However, the process was not yet complete when Kejagung decided to summon the parties to Jakarta.
“Oh, not yet, not yet. Clearly, this is a response from the leadership… at that time, an examination was also being conducted at Kejati Sumut, but we have taken it over directly by the Attorney General’s Office team to make it more objective,” said the Head of the Legal Information Centre of the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Indonesia, Anang Supriatna, on Monday (6/4/2026).
He emphasised that this step was taken to ensure the process runs transparently and does not raise public doubts. He stressed that the Prosecutor’s Office continues to uphold the principles of caution and the presumption of innocence in examining the case.
His side will delve into whether the legal process against Amsal Sitepu has proceeded in accordance with the rules and professionalism. If violations are found later, ethical sanctions will be imposed in accordance with internal provisions.
“We will see what it is like, whether there is… the legal process against Amsal Sitepu has been carried out in accordance with the provisions and professionally. If there are violations later, of course there will be… if there are provisions for violations, there will be ethical sanctions from our internal,” he said.
