Bandarlampung (ANTARA) — The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has stated that the implementation of the Jaga Desa (Village Guard) application aims to enhance transparency and accountability in village governance.

“We continue to strengthen governance and oversight of village finances through the implementation of the Jaga Desa application, which is integrated with the village financial system,” said Reda Manthovani, Deputy Attorney General for Intelligence, in South Lampung District, Lampung Province, on Friday.

He emphasised that the application was first introduced during activities in Metro City as part of efforts to monitor village heads’ accountability in managing village finances.

“Through integration with the village financial system (Siskeudes), financial report data that were previously in numerical form can be directly linked to the Jaga Desa application, making it easier for law enforcement authorities to monitor and evaluate,” he said.

He stated that with this system, District Attorneys (Kajari) together with Intelligence Division heads (Kasi Intel) can directly monitor whether village financial accountability reports have been properly prepared and implemented.

“The hope with the Jaga Desa application is that District Attorneys and Intelligence Division heads can monitor whether village financial accountability is correct or not, so that village government governance can run more effectively,” he said.

He noted that if village-level reporting and financial management operates properly, then administrative processes and oversight at the central level will also run more smoothly.

“The Jaga Desa programme also aligns with the national development agenda, particularly with the government’s vision emphasising the strengthening of clean and accountable governance,” he said.

However, he stated that the programme had actually been running for some time prior to the current Presidential agenda. Village oversight had been conducted, but without using a digital application system as it does now.

“It is only during the current administration that the oversight system has been updated with digital application use so that monitoring can be conducted more broadly and effectively,” he said.

Following its introduction in Metro City, the programme was subsequently expanded to various regions. In its implementation, the Attorney General’s Office also involved regional representatives to help monitor village heads’ accountability reports.

“The National Association of Village Representative Bodies (ABPEDNAS) will serve as our extended arm in overseeing village government performance so that it can function more optimally,” he said.
