Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Republic of Indonesia’s Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has designated HS or Hery Susanto, as Chairman of the Republic of Indonesia Ombudsman, as a suspect in the criminal corruption case (Tipikor) concerning the management of nickel mining business from 2013 to 2025. “The Jampidsus investigation team has designated HS in the Tipikor case of nickel mining business management in 2025. The designation of the suspect was carried out after the investigation team conducted searches and other actions,” explained the Director of Investigation at Jampidsus Kejagung, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, at the Kejagung Office, Jakarta, on Thursday (16/4/2026). Syarief Sulaeman detailed the chronology, stating that Hery Susanto’s involvement initially stemmed from the issue of calculating Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) by PT TSHI submitted to the Ministry of Forestry. “Where PT TSHI sought a way out, then together with brother HS arranged it, so that the letter or policy by the Ministry of Forestry was corrected by the Ombudsman, allowing PT TSHI to calculate its own burden to be paid,” explained Syarief Sulaeman. Then, to carry out or facilitate that action, suspect HS received a sum of money from brother LKM, in this case the Director of PT TSHI. “Approximately handed over from this one person Rp1.5 billion,” clarified Syarief. For his actions, Hery Susanto has been designated as violating Article 12 letter a letter b Article 606 of the Criminal Code. Detention will apply for the next 20 days at Salemba Detention Centre, South Jakarta. Syarief added that this case occurred while the individual was still serving as an Ombudsman Commissioner in 2015. For context, Hery Susanto was recently elected as Chairman of the Republic of Indonesia Ombudsman for the 2026-2031 term. He took the oath of office in the presence of President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace on 10 April 2026. He replaces Mokhammad Najih, who led the previous period.
