Attorney General's Office Seizes $1 Million in Cash Following Raid on Samin Tan's Office
The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) seized cash in the form of US dollars during a raid on the office of Asmin Koalindo Tuhup (AKT) in Jakarta. Director of Investigations of the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, stated that the raid was conducted by investigators in connection with the corruption case involving illegal mining by tycoon Samin Tan. “Approximately Rp1 billion at the (AKT) office in Jakarta,” he said when confirmed via short message on Tuesday (31/3). Previously, the Attorney General’s Office had raided 14 locations in Jakarta, West Java, and Kalimantan in the alleged corruption case related to Samin Tan’s mining operations. Head of the AGO’s Legal Information Centre, Anang Supriatna, mentioned that from those 14 locations, his team had seized case-related documents, vehicles, and heavy equipment. He said that out of the 14 raided locations, 10 were in Jakarta, including the AKT office, affiliated offices, and several residences of Samin Tan and witnesses in this case. In addition, investigators had also raided three locations related to Samin Tan’s illegal mining activities in Central Kalimantan and one location in South Kalimantan. “The raids have been completed; they will be detailed later, compiled, collected, catalogued first, and then submitted for seizure,” he stated. Previously, the AGO designated tycoon Samin Tan in the corruption case of managing illegal mining in the Central Kalimantan region during the period 2016-2025. In this matter, Samin Tan, as the beneficial owner or beneficiary of AKT, is alleged to have continued illegal mining and coal sales activities from 2017 to 2025 unlawfully. In fact, PT AKT’s mining activities had been revoked through a Termination Letter in the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Decree Number 3714 K/30/MEM/2017. However, these illegal mining activities continued because Samin Tan is alleged to have colluded with rogue state officials.
