Attorney General's Office Secures Karo District Prosecutor Over Amsal Sitepu Case Controversy

The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has intervened to investigate alleged ethical violations in the handling of the Amsal Sitepu case. Kejagung has summoned the Head of the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office (Kajari) Dante Rajagukguk and the prosecutors handling the case.

“Regarding the Karo Kajari, the Head of the Special Corruption Prosecutors’ Section, and the Deputy Section Heads or Public Prosecutors handling the case, they have now been summoned to the Attorney General’s Office for clarification and will subsequently be examined by the internal Attorney General’s Office,” said the Head of Public Relations and Protocols of Kejagung, Anang Supriatna, to reporters on Sunday (5/4/2026).

Anang stated that they have been secured by Kejagung’s intelligence team. Subsequently, Kejagung’s internal team will clarify the Karo prosecutors regarding the handling of the Amsal Sitepu case.

“It is true that they have been secured by the Attorney General’s Office intelligence team. Clearly, they will undergo clarification to determine whether the case handling was professional or not; we await the results of the clarification,” he said.

The clarification process is still ongoing. He emphasised that Kejagung will impose strict sanctions on the Karo prosecutors if they are proven to have violated procedures in handling the Amsal Sitepu case.

“Of course, we need time in this matter, and we still prioritise the principle of caution while upholding the presumption of innocence. If violations and unprofessional conduct are proven, there will be internal ethical actions against them,” Anang explained.

As is known, Amsal Sitepu was demanded a two-year prison sentence by the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office prosecutors in a corruption case involving the production of village profile videos in Karo Regency. The judge then declared Amsal not guilty and issued an acquittal verdict.

Following the acquittal verdict, allegations of ethical violations by the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office prosecutors in the Amsal Sitepu case emerged. The House of Representatives’ Commission III even held a meeting with the Karo Kajari and his staff on Thursday (2/4) to learn about the handling of the case.
