Attorney General's Office Reveals Long-term Investigation into Alleged BGN Corruption, Including Viral Issues
The Director of Investigation (Dirdik) of the Jampidsus at the Attorney General’s Office, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, explained the stages of the case’s status escalation, noting that the investigation began last week. “The investigation stage commenced last Friday,” Syarief told reporters at the Attorney General’s Office Building in South Jakarta on Thursday (4/6/2026).
Syarief refuted claims that the transition to the investigation stage was baseless, ensuring that investigators have secured sufficient evidence to establish a criminal offence. “Our priority is having two pieces of evidence. This can include electronic evidence, documentary evidence, or witness statements gathered during the inquiry stage. Two pieces of evidence are required to declare that a criminal event has occurred,” Syahrief explained.
Furthermore, Syarief revealed that the Prosecutor’s Office is giving special attention to this matter because it involves the public interest. The authorities had been collecting data for a significant period before officially investigating the case. “The Prosecutor’s Office pays close attention to matters affecting the masses, including the MBG (Free Nutritious Meal) programme,” said Syarief. He added that while the transition from inquiry to investigation may have appeared rapid, it was the result of long-term study and data collection.
When asked if this deep dive included monitoring criticisms and viral issues on social media, Syarief confirmed, “Including those that went viral.”
The Attorney General’s Office has named three former BGN officials as suspects in this case: former Head of BGN, Dadan Hindayana, and two former Deputy Heads, Sony Sonjaya and Lodewyk Pusung. The trio is alleged to have intervened in the verification process of BGN’s partner portals to ensure that foundations owned by them passed inspection despite being unqualified.
In addition to the intervention, the three suspects are allegedly affiliated with several SPPG (School Feeding Implementation Units). Through these affiliations, several SPPG foundations reportedly received billions of rupiah every day. Beyond the foundation issues, the Attorney General’s Office has detected interference in the procurement of goods and services that did not meet real needs and involved price markups. Syarief noted that these procurements had already been realised. The items caught in the corruption scandal include the procurement of 21,801 electric motorcycles valued at approximately Rp 1 trillion, 32,000 pairs of shoes, 31,000 tablets, and 5,400 75-inch televisions.
Currently, Jampidsus investigators are continuing intensive searches at several locations in Jakarta to collect further evidence related to the case involving Dadan Hindayana and others.
