JAKARTA – The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has disclosed that a member of parliament was present during its search of the home of former Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya Bakar in connection with an alleged corruption case involving palm oil and plantation management practices for the period 2015-2024.

Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, Director of Special Crime Investigation at the Attorney General’s Office, confirmed that the DPR member in question is Ananda Tohpati, Siti Nurbaya’s son. “Yes, at SN’s home. Yes, the person in question was indeed at his mother’s residence,” said Syarief when met at the Attorney General’s Building in Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026.

Ananda is a member of the Nasdem Party. Regarding the possibility of questioning Siti Nurbaya, Syarief stated that investigators have not yet scheduled an examination. “Not yet. We are currently still examining a great deal of electronic evidence that we seized at that time. We are investigating and conducting witness examinations of several private sector individuals connected with palm oil management, particularly processes involving forest area conversion. We are still in the process,” he explained.

To date, Syarief said, more than 30 witnesses have been examined.

The Attorney General’s Office previously conducted searches at several locations, including Siti Nurbaya’s home, as part of the investigation into the alleged corruption case involving palm oil and plantation management practices from 2015-2024. According to Syarief, the case entered the investigation phase last year and concerns plantation and palm oil industry management, not mining management. “Several people have asked me whether this is about mining management. It is not. This is an investigation into plantation and palm oil industry management,” he clarified.

Six searches were conducted on 28-29 January 2026, with various evidence seized from these operations. “There were documents and electronic evidence. These are indeed what we require,” Syarief stated.
