Attorney General's Office Response After Three Defendants in Sritex Case Acquitted
The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has responded following the acquittal of three defendants in the corruption case concerning credit facilities provided to PT Sritex. The three defendants acquitted are former President Director of Bank Jateng, Supriyatno; former President Director of Bank BJB, Yuddy Renaldi; and Head of Corporate and Commercial Division of Bank BJB, Dicky Syahbandinata. Head of the AGO’s Legal Information Centre, Anang Supriatna, stated that they fully respect the decision handed down by the Semarang Corruption Court panel of judges. He said the acquittal will be immediately studied by the Public Prosecutors (JPU) to serve as consideration for further legal actions. “The JPU will first study the verdict in full, and it will later become the basis for the JPU to take a stance in accordance with the provisions,” he told reporters on Friday (8/5). Previously, the Semarang Corruption Court panel sentenced the three defendants to acquittal in the corruption case of providing banking credit facilities to PT Sritex. “Declaring the Defendant not proven guilty of the prosecutor’s charges in their entirety. Ordering the Defendant to be released immediately after this verdict is pronounced,” said Chief Judge Rommel Franciskus Tampubolon. According to the judge, the defendants were not proven to have intervened to approve PT Sritex’s credit application. Additionally, the defendants were not proven to have pressured the credit analysis team in that credit application. The defendants were not proven to have intervened, and there was no conflict of interest in deciding on PT Sritex’s credit. The judge stated that the defendants were not proven to have abused their authority or position in that credit application. The judge stated that PT Sritex’s inability to repay the credit was caused by planned manipulation of financial reports. That condition, said the judge, is not the responsibility of the defendants. On the other hand, the Semarang District Court has sentenced two former Sritex bosses guilty. The judge imposed a 14-year prison sentence on Iwan Setiawan Lukminto (Iwan) and a 12-year prison sentence on Iwan Kurniawan Lukminto (Wawan). The judge also imposed a fine of Rp1 billion each on Iwan and Wawan. Iwan and Wawan were also ordered to pay restitution of Rp 677 billion each.
