Attorney General's Office Responds to Corruption Case Searches

The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has spoken out regarding searches conducted by the Corruption Eradication Task Force (Kortastipidkor) and the Metro Jaya Police related to money laundering and bribery cases involving coal and Asabri. Head of the Attorney General’s Office Legal Information Centre, Anang Supriatna, stated that the search and seizure efforts are fully within the police’s authority. He confirmed that the Attorney General’s Office respects all ongoing investigative processes in accordance with statutory regulations. ‘The Attorney General’s Office is awaiting the results of the investigation being carried out by police investigators, including regarding the objects of the search, evidence, and the parties linked to the process,’ he said in a shared video statement. On the same occasion, Anang also asked the public not to jump to conclusions and link the legal process to specific figures. ‘We urge the public not to form conclusions or opinions linking a person or institution to alleged criminal acts based solely on information circulating in mass media or social media,’ Anang said. He also encouraged that the entire law enforcement process be carried out while upholding the principle of presumption of innocence. The Attorney General’s Office, he said, fully respects the independence and authority of every law enforcement officer in carrying out their respective duties. Anang stated that his office believes that every law enforcement process is conducted based on valid evidence and applicable legal mechanisms. ‘We also urge the public to obtain official information from the law enforcement officers handling the case,’ Anang said.
