Attorney General's Office Responds to Corruption Case Searches

The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has spoken out regarding searches carried out by the Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortastipidkor) and Polda Metro Jaya in connection with money laundering (TPPU) and bribery cases spanning coal mining to Asabri.

Head of the Attorney General’s Office Legal Information Centre, Anang Supriatna, said the legal measures of search and seizure are entirely within the authority of the police.

He assured that the Attorney General’s Office respects the entire investigation process currently under way in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations.

“The Attorney General’s Office is awaiting the results of the investigation being carried out by police investigators, including the objects of the searches, evidence, and the parties linked in that process,” he said in a video statement.

On the same occasion, Anang also asked the public not to jump to conclusions or link the ongoing legal process to any particular figure.

“We urge the public not to build conclusions or opinions linking a person or an institution to alleged criminal acts based solely on information circulating in the mass media or social media,” Anang said.

He also urged that the entire law enforcement process continue to uphold the principle of presumption of innocence.

He said the Attorney General’s Office fully respects the independence and authority of each law enforcement agency in carrying out their respective duties.

Anang said his side is confident that every law enforcement process is conducted on the basis of valid evidence and applicable legal mechanisms.

“We also urge the public to seek official information from the law enforcement officials handling the case,” Anang said.
