Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has responded to the statement by defendant Amsal Christy Sitepu in the alleged corruption case of budget inflation, who claimed he was intimidated by a prosecutor. Amsal admitted receiving a box of brownies from a prosecutor who asked him to follow the legal process and not cause a fuss on social media. According to him, the intimidation occurred at the detention centre where he is being held. Regarding the claim, Head of the Legal Information Centre (Kapuspenkum) of Kejagung, Anang Supriatna, in Jakarta on Monday, explained that the distribution of brownies was part of the Jaksa Humanis programme. “Regarding the giving of cake, it was just the programme, said to be in the context of Jaksa Humanis. Not only him, several others were given it too,” he said. He also emphasised that there was no intimidation against Amsal Sitepu. “From the version of the Chief Prosecutor’s admission, no intimidation was ever carried out. There was none,” he stated. Meanwhile, Amsal Sitepu, during a meeting with Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Monday, admitted receiving a box of brownies from a prosecutor who asked him to follow the legal process and not cause a fuss on social media. “But I said I’m not afraid, I’m not guilty,” he said. In response, Amsal claimed he does not want any more young people in Indonesia to be criminalised like him. He wants to be the last creative economy actor who has to deal with the law. “I said no, I will continue to fight. Even though I know many people say you will be buried, if you fight you will be buried,” he said. Previously, Amsal Sitepu was demanded a two-year prison sentence by the prosecutor in the alleged corruption case of the village profile video production project in Karo Regency, North Sumatra. The prosecutor also demanded a fine of Rp50 million, with the provision that if not paid, it would be replaced with three months’ imprisonment.
