Attorney General's Office Ready to Face DPR Scrutiny on Case Involving Amsal Sitepu
The alleged corruption case involving village funds that has implicated Amsal Sitepu continues to draw significant attention. Amid the intense public scrutiny, the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has stated its preparedness should the House of Representatives (DPR) summon them for a hearing to delve into the matter.
Head of the Legal Information Centre at Kejagung, Anang Supriatna, emphasised that the office regards the DPR’s actions as part of the oversight mechanism for law enforcement.
“Regarding the RDP, we are ready, we greatly respect it, and we are thankful that it serves as a form of control for us as law enforcers to carry out our duties and functions in accordance with regulations and to meet society’s sense of justice,” he stated on Monday, 30 March 2026.
Amid pressures from various parties, Kejagung stressed that the legal process is proceeding according to its stages. Currently, the Amsal case is at the prosecution’s reading of charges phase. Anang affirmed that ample room for the defendant’s defence is available through the plea mechanism in court.
“Regarding the defendant’s requests, by all means, there are legal mechanisms to pursue. One of them, following the prosecution’s charges, is the plea of defence from the defendant and their legal counsel—present it there as appropriate,” he said.
Not only facing external scrutiny, Kejagung also ensures that internal institutional oversight is functioning. The Deputy Attorney General for Supervision (Jamwas) is reported to have intervened to monitor the handling of this case.
“Jamwas will delve deeper,” he added.
