Attorney General's Office Proposes Rp28.15 Trillion Budget Increase for 2027
The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has proposed an additional budget allocation of Rp28.151 trillion for the 2027 fiscal year. The request was submitted to cover the shortfall between the indicative ceiling set by the government and the ideal operational requirements of the prosecutorial corps in facing future law enforcement challenges.
The additional budget request was delivered directly by the Junior Attorney General for Development (JAM-Pembinaan), Hendro Dewanto, during a working meeting with House of Representatives Commission III at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (15/6/2026).
Hendro explained that the indicative allocation currently projected for the Attorney General’s Office in 2027 is Rp15.5 trillion. According to him, this figure falls far short of the institution’s ideal requirement, which is calculated at Rp43.65 trillion. “The indicative allocation of Rp15.5 trillion for 2027 does not yet meet the ideal needs of the Attorney General’s Office, which amount to Rp43.65 trillion, as stated in the Attorney General’s letter number B-24/A/CF.02/02/2026 dated 12 February 2026 regarding the budget requirements of the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Indonesia,” Hendro stated.
The formulation of the ideal budget requirement is based on a careful calculation of at least 13 strategic challenges projected to be faced by the Attorney General’s Office in 2027. The funding needs encompass accelerating the completion of various National Strategic Programmes (PSN), strengthening the law enforcement system, optimising the management of corruption case handling, and improving the welfare of civil servants (ASN) within the Attorney General’s Office as well as human resource development.
Furthermore, the Attorney General’s Office is also focusing on strengthening infrastructure and information technology facilities, technical adjustments to investigation and prosecution duties following the enactment of the new Criminal Code (KUHP) and Criminal Procedure Code, expanding the implementation of restorative justice, and enhancing legal protection for Indonesian citizens abroad.
Hendro detailed that the proposed additional funds of Rp28.151 trillion will be distributed across two main programmes. The first is the Law Enforcement and Legal Services Programme, amounting to Rp11.39 trillion, with the largest portion allocated to strengthening legal facilities, absorbing Rp10.85 trillion. The remainder of this programme’s budget is divided among the Intelligence sector (Rp149.9 billion), General Crimes (Rp63.7 billion), Special Crimes (Rp188.74 billion), Civil and State Administrative Affairs (Rp59.07 billion), Military Crimes (Rp26.4 billion), and Asset Recovery (Rp45.45 billion).
The second programme focuses on Management Support, with a total proposed addition of Rp16.76 trillion. Within this management and secretariat cluster, the budget is allocated for the fulfilment of physical facilities and infrastructure (Rp10.81 trillion), development (Rp5.69 trillion), education and training programmes (Rp238.83 billion), and oversight (Rp20.9 billion).
The Attorney General’s Office stressed that fulfilling this additional request is a vital instrument to ensure optimal and accountable public service and law enforcement functions can operate without operational hindrances in the field during 2027.
At the conclusion of the meeting, House Commission III approved the indicative ceiling for the 2027 fiscal year for the Attorney General’s Office at Rp15.495 trillion. The commission expressed its commitment to advocating for the additional budget proposal of Rp28.151 trillion. If the proposed increase is subsequently approved in discussions with the Budget Committee (Badan Anggaran) of the DPR and the Ministry of Finance, the total budget allocation for the Attorney General’s Office will rise to Rp43.646 trillion.
