Attorney General's Office Proposes Rp 22.1 Trillion Budget Increase for 2027

Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) held a meeting with the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) to discuss the Work Plan and Budget for State Ministries and Agencies. During the session, the Attorney General’s Office requested a budget increase of Rp 22.1 trillion.

The meeting took place at the Commission III office in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (31/8/2026), and was attended directly by Deputy Attorney General Asep Nana Mulyana.

Asep initially stated that the 2027 budget ceiling of Rp 21.5 trillion does not meet the ideal requirements of the Attorney General’s Office. He detailed the ideal budget requirements as outlined in the Attorney General’s Letter number B-24/A/CR.2/02/2026 dated 12 February 2026, and Letter number B-107/A/CR.2/06/2026 dated 10 June 2026, proposing a total budget of Rp 43.6 trillion.

“In relation to this, the Indonesian Attorney General’s Office has proposed an additional budget requirement for 2027 amounting to 22.1 trillion. We hope this can be considered for fulfilment,” Asep said during the meeting.

He then detailed the specific needs for this additional budget, the first being personnel expenditures. “Firstly, meeting personnel costs. This is because the Attorney General’s Office has received 7,057 CPNS (civil servant candidates) who will be appointed as permanent civil servants in 2026, and 1,609 PPPK (government employees with work agreements) who have been performing duties in 2026. This includes the transfer of 786 civil servants from the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services, which aligns with the increased duties of the Rupbasan (Prisoner Detention Centre) now under the Attorney General’s Office,” he explained.

Secondly, Asep mentioned that the Attorney General’s Office has received directive tasks from President Prabowo Subianto, necessitating additional funding.

Thirdly, the budget is needed to support the improvement of employee welfare, specifically regarding performance allowances, position facilities, and functional prosecutor allowances, particularly for employees stationed in 3T areas (underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost regions). “As a reminder to the members of Commission III, there may be a need for awards or increases in allowances for those serving in 3T categories, considering the higher costs of living, transport, and other factors that differ from those in other regions,” he added.

Furthermore, Asep noted that the additional budget would be used to enhance performance, particularly following the implementation of the new Criminal Code (KUHP) and the new Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) in the resolution of investigation and prosecution tasks. “Adjusting investigation and prosecution tasks following the implementation of the new KUHP and KUHAP will certainly change the law enforcement landscape. Currently, we are using a coordination pattern where we work alongside investigators from the start to build cases, with the hope of reducing the back-and-forth of cases between investigators and the Attorney General’s Office,” he said.

Finally, Asep stated that the budget would be used for operations and supporting infrastructure, including asset recovery, office renovations, and covering costs for electricity, water, telephone, and other supporting needs.
