JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has extended the detention of five suspects in the case of an online fraud syndicate using phishing tactics through SMS blasts, impersonating e-tickets, as uncovered by the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim).

The Director of E at the Deputy Attorney General for General Criminal Matters (Jampidum), Robert M. Tacoy, stated that the extension of the suspects’ detention was at the request of investigators from the Cyber Directorate of Bareskrim Polri.

“We, the Attorney General’s Office, in this case, Jampidum, regarding the suspects mentioned earlier, have taken legal action by granting an extension of detention upon request from the Cyber Directorate for the process involving these suspects,” said Robert in a press conference at the National Police Headquarters, Jakarta, Wednesday (February 25, 2026).

“What are the next steps? We will certainly coordinate intensively with our colleagues from the Cyber Directorate to immediately complete the evidence that has been explained and witnessed by all of you to bring this case to court,” he added.

Furthermore, Robert urged the public to be more vigilant against short messages or suspicious links related to e-tickets.

He said that the official e-ticket website of the Republic of Indonesia’s Attorney General’s Office can only be accessed through the address tilang.kejaksaan.go.id.

“Ensure that the public accesses the official government website for e-ticket information,” said Robert.

“We urge the public to understand about the website, then be vigilant against E-Ticket messages or links if there are suspicious WhatsApp or SMS messages. Then always double-check the authenticity of the website accessed before entering personal data,” he added.

According to him, the e-ticket process does not immediately begin with a direct message from the Attorney General’s Office without a clear procedure from the police.

Therefore, the public is asked to ensure that they only access official government websites and immediately report to the police if they receive messages from unofficial numbers impersonating government agencies.

“If the public receives SMS or WhatsApp messages from numbers as described earlier that are not official numbers or official hotlines, we urge the public to report to the Indonesian Police,” he explained.

In this case, the police have named five suspects who are allegedly controlled by foreign nationals from China.

The Director of the Cyber Crime Investigation Unit of Bareskrim Polri, Himawan Bayu Aji, explained that the perpetrators sent SMS messages containing traffic violation fines accompanied by fake links resembling the official e-ticket payment website of the Attorney General’s Office.

From the results of cyber patrols, investigators found at least 124 phishing website links that looked very similar to the official e-ticket website of the Attorney General’s Office.

One victim reported losing funds on their credit card after clicking on a link from an unknown number and entering personal data on the fake website.
