The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has emphasised that the examination regarding the controversy in the Amsal Sitepu case is not limited to the Head of the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office (Kajari Karo), Dante Rajagukguk. The entire team of prosecutors involved in investigating the alleged corruption markup in the production of a video is currently undergoing intensive scrutiny.

The Head of the Public Relations and Legal Information Centre (Kapuspenkum) of Kejagung, Anang Supriatna, revealed that since Saturday night (4 April), several high-ranking officials from the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office have been secured for questioning.

“Clearly, on Saturday night, the individuals concerned, including Kajari Karo, the Head of the Special Crimes Section (Kasi Pidsus), and two deputy section heads handling the case, were secured and summoned by the Attorney General’s Intelligence Team,” Anang stated at the Kejagung building in South Jakarta on Monday (6 April).

As of now, Kejagung has not detailed the specifics of the examination material. However, Anang explained that the process could develop into the realm of special criminal proceedings if significant evidence of deviations in case handling is found.

“If it proceeds, it will go to the examination team. The examination will be conducted by the Attorney General’s Office, from Kejagung’s Special Crimes Division,” Anang added.

The firm step of summoning the prosecutors to Jakarta is a direct instruction from Kejagung’s top leadership. This measure was taken as a rapid response to safeguard the credibility and honour of the prosecutorial institution in the eyes of the public, following the widespread impact of the handling of the Amsal Sitepu case.

“Clearly, this is a response from the leadership regarding the handling of cases with such impacts,” Anang stressed.
