The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has revealed the reason its Intelligence Team detained the Chief Prosecutor of Serdang Bedagai, North Sumatra, Amriyata. Head of the Attorney General’s Legal Information Centre, Anang Supriatna, stated that Amriyata is suspected of committing violations in the execution of his duties. However, he did not explain the violation in detail. “After being followed up by the intelligence team, there is strong suspicion of a violation—unprocedural, inappropriate, and unprofessional handling of work. There is a conflict of interest,” he said. He added that Amriyata is currently undergoing further examination by the Attorney General’s Intelligence Team. “If the examination results point to an ethical violation, it will be handed over to the Supervision Division. If there is indeed a criminal process, it will be handed over to the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus),” he stated. Amriyata is a career prosecutor who had not long served as Chief Prosecutor of Serdang Bedagai. He was officially inaugurated by the then Head of the North Sumatra High Prosecutor’s Office, Harli Siregar, on 5 November 2025 at the North Sumatra High Prosecutor’s Office Hall. In this position, Amriyata replaced Rufina Ginting, who received a promotion as Assistant for Development at the Bangka Belitung High Prosecutor’s Office. Before being entrusted to lead the Serdang Bedagai Prosecutor’s Office, Amriyata served as Chief Prosecutor of Lingga within the jurisdiction of the Riau Islands High Prosecutor’s Office. Amriyata’s career as a prosecutor is known to have been largely spent in various regional prosecutor’s offices before finally being entrusted with the position of chief prosecutor.
