Attorney General's Office Clarifies Circular on Heightened Vigilance
The Attorney General’s Office (Kejaksaan Agung) has explained the issuance of a circular on heightened vigilance issued by the Deputy Attorney General for Intelligence.
Head of the Office’s Legal Information Centre, Anang Supriatna, confirmed the existence of the circular, but claimed it was intended to strengthen oversight and protect the institution’s dignity.
“In that regard, the circular is more about safeguarding integrity, maintaining good relations in law enforcement — it is more about that,” he told journalists on Thursday (9 July).
The circular in question is numbered R-696/D/Dip.4/07/2026 and signed by the Deputy Attorney General for Intelligence (Jamintel), Reda Manthovani. It is addressed to the heads of high prosecutors’ offices down to district prosecutors’ offices across Indonesia.
Anang said that amid the current situation, law enforcement officials must remain alert to various forms of interference. Therefore, he said, the circular asks prosecutors to focus on their duties and guard themselves against temptation.
“By the current situation, we mean we are reminding them — an effort to become good prosecutors, to be careful. Law enforcers certainly face many temptations,” he said.
“In a situation like this, we maintain our condition — stay vigilant, right? Vigilance in the sense of safeguarding integrity, watching over those around us. Challenges will inevitably exist, like it or not,” he explained.
On that occasion, he denied that the issuance of the circular had any connection with the searches conducted by the police yesterday.
Anang said that circulars and leadership directives are routine matters for mitigating Threats, Disturbances, Obstacles and Challenges (AGHT).
“No (there is no connection with the searches) — it is general in nature. Jamintel’s role is more about security, observation, AGHT,” he said.
“The Special Crimes Division (Pidsus) also issues circulars; there are always such things. It just so happens that Intelligence’s is more like that, and each time we remind people of the situation, the current conditions,” he added.
Furthermore, he also quashed circulating reports of a large-scale Zoom meeting within the Attorney General’s Office scheduled for today. He stressed the reports were untrue and that the meeting had been cancelled to avoid wild speculation or slander.
“There is no Zoom of any kind. Because the planned Zoom was simply meant to direct everyone to work carefully and well — that was the plan. It had already circulated as if the Zoom was heading in all sorts of directions, so it was cancelled rather than becoming slander,” he said.
