Attorney General's Office Clarifies Circular on Heightened Vigilance

The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has explained the issuance of a circular on heightened vigilance released by the Deputy Attorney General for Intelligence. Head of the Attorney General’s Legal Information Centre, Anang Supriatna, confirmed the existence of the circular. However, he claimed the letter was intended to strengthen oversight and safeguard the institution’s dignity. “Regarding that, the circular is more about maintaining integrity, maintaining good relations in law enforcement, it’s more about that,” he told reporters on Thursday (9/7). The circular in question is numbered R-696/D/Dip.4/07/2026 and was signed by the Deputy Attorney General for Intelligence, Reda Manthovani. The letter is addressed to all Heads of High Prosecutors’ Offices down to District Prosecutors’ Offices across Indonesia. Anang acknowledged that in the current situation, law enforcers must remain vigilant against various disturbances. Therefore, he said, the letter asks the prosecutor’s ranks to focus on their duties and guard themselves against temptation. “The current situation means we are reminding them, the effort to be a good prosecutor, to be careful. Law enforcers certainly face many temptations,” he said. “In this kind of situation, we maintain the condition, be vigilant, that’s what it means. Vigilance in the sense of maintaining integrity, maintaining our surroundings. Challenges, whether we like it or not, will always exist,” he explained. On that occasion, he denied that the issuance of the circular was related to a search conducted by the police the previous day. Anang stated that such circulars and leadership directives are routine measures to mitigate Threats, Disturbances, Obstacles, and Challenges (AGHT). “No (connection to the search), it’s just general. The Deputy for Intelligence is more about security, observation, AGHT,” he said. “The Deputy for Special Crimes also has circulars, they always exist. It just so happens that Intelligence is more about that, and indeed it’s always reminding about the situation, the current conditions,” he added. Furthermore, he also dismissed circulating news regarding a large-scale Zoom meeting agenda within the Attorney General’s Office today. He stressed the news was untrue and the agenda was cancelled to avoid wild speculation or slander. “There is no Zoom meeting at all. Because the plan was to hold a Zoom meeting to direct everyone to work carefully and properly. It had already spread as if the Zoom meeting was going to lead somewhere, so it was cancelled rather than become slander,” he said.
