Attorney General's Office Asset Recovery Agency auctions crude oil worth Rp900 billion

The Asset Recovery Agency (BPA) of the Indonesian Attorney General’s Office has auctioned crude oil from the tanker MT Arman 114, valued at Rp900 billion.

“We set the limit price at around Rp800 billion, and it has been sold for approximately Rp900 billion,” stated the Head of the Attorney General’s Office BPA, Kuntadi, at the BPA Building in Jakarta on Monday. He revealed that the purchaser of the crude oil is Pertamina Patra Niaga.

However, the tanker MT Arman 114, which carried the crude oil, has not yet been sold. Kuntadi expressed confidence that the vessel would soon find a buyer, noting that a ship of that size certainly retains significant value. The case involves a general criminal matter regarding environmental pollution.

Previously, in July 2025, the Batam District Court ordered the forfeiture of the MT Arman 114, along with its cargo of light crude oil, to the state. The individual involved, Abdelaziz, was sentenced to seven years in prison and fined Rp5 billion, with a subsidiary sentence of six months’ imprisonment.

The case originated when the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla) spotted two tankers moored together with their Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) turned off. Upon approach, it was observed that the MT Arman 114, carrying crude oil, and the MT S Tinos, flying the Cameroonian flag, were allegedly engaged in illegal ship-to-ship transfers. Aerial observations via drones confirmed that a pipe connection existed between the two vessels and that an oil spill had occurred from the MT Arman 114.
