Attorney General's Office Approves Dropping of Two Cases in Maluku

The Attorney General’s Office has approved the termination of prosecutions for two cases submitted by the Maluku High Prosecutor’s Office through a restorative justice mechanism. The cases involve a drug abuse offence in Buru Regency and an assault case in Central Maluku Regency. Approval was granted after the Head of the Maluku High Prosecutor’s Office, Rudy Irmawan, along with officials from the Buru and Central Maluku District Prosecutor’s Offices, presented the cases via video conference to the Junior Attorney General for General Crimes on Thursday.

The first case from the Buru District Prosecutor’s Office involved suspect Ahmad Soahamole, alias Dede, who was alleged to have abused methamphetamine. An integrated assessment by the Maluku Provincial National Narcotics Agency concluded that the suspect was not involved in a drug trafficking network. Based on this consideration, the Attorney General’s Office approved the termination of prosecution and ordered the suspect to undergo two months of medical rehabilitation and one month of social rehabilitation at the Maluku Regional Special Hospital.

The second case from the Central Maluku District Prosecutor’s Office involved two suspects, Nur Jamila Lessy, alias Nur, and Hadija Pary, alias Ija, in an assault case. A prosecutor facilitator successfully mediated a peace agreement between the suspects and the victim, Dewi Citra Lessy, involving police investigators, local government officials, traditional leaders, religious figures, and the families of the parties. After considering that the restorative justice requirements had been met, the directors at the Junior Attorney General’s Office for General Crimes approved the termination of prosecution for both cases. The Head of the Maluku High Prosecutor’s Office stated that the approval is part of the prosecutor’s office policy to prioritise law enforcement oriented towards recovery, conflict resolution, and public benefit.
