Attorney General Urges High Prosecutors to Prioritise Cases Affecting Public Livelihood
Attorney General ST Burhanuddin installed and swore in 15 heads of High Prosecutor’s Offices (Kajati) and 19 other officials at the Main Building of the Attorney General’s Office in South Jakarta. During the ceremony, the Attorney General requested that the new officials pay serious attention to handling cases that directly affect the livelihood of the wider community and those with a significant impact on state finances and the economy.
He also urged the High Prosecutor’s Offices and District Prosecutor’s Offices to take a role in handling strategic corruption cases professionally and responsibly. This is intended to ensure that the handling of corruption is evenly distributed and not centralised solely at the Attorney General’s Office.
Burhanuddin reminded that public scrutiny and expectations regarding the performance of the prosecutor’s office are currently very high. He stressed that all Adhyaksa personnel must maintain integrity and avoid any disgraceful acts that could tarnish the institution’s reputation. He stated that the oath of office must be interpreted as a sacred promise and a responsibility to be accounted for to the state, society, and God Almighty.
He also directed the new High Prosecutors to quickly, accurately, and proportionally identify the dynamics of issues in their respective work areas. Law enforcement in the regions, he said, must be carried out quietly, calmly, measurably, and without causing counterproductive commotion. The Attorney General noted that the High Prosecutors are the reflection and representation of the institution in the regions.
Burhanuddin instructed the High Prosecutors to build solid synergy with elements of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) to maintain regional stability without sacrificing institutional independence. He also called for the strengthening of public transparency through the active and continuous publication of performance achievements. Internally, strict supervision must be enhanced to prevent any abuse of authority, and any indication of violations must be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law. Officials in the regions are also required to consistently uphold personal and family integrity through a simple, firm, and responsible lifestyle.
