Attorney General Urged to Reveal State Officials Involved in Samin Tan Corruption Case
The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has stated that it has identified state officials suspected of involvement in the corruption case concerning illegal coal mining in Central Kalimantan (Kalteng). However, Kejagung has declined to reveal the identities of these officials. Hari Purwanto, Executive Director of the People’s Democracy Study (SDR), views Kejagung’s statement concealing the names of state officials involved in the Samin Tan case—where Tan has not yet been named a suspect—as raising questions for the public. “Why make a legal matter into a riddle like ‘guess the mangosteen’? Especially with circulating allegations of initials K and MS, investigators must rigorously test them against evidence and legal facts to avoid slander and criminalisation,” he said. Hari emphasised that the public should not suspect any room for legal negotiation, particularly since the Director of Investigation’s statement was clearly made during a press conference at the Round Building on 28 March 2026, explaining Samin Tan’s role in the PT AKT Kalteng mining corruption, where illegal mining continued until 2025. “If the evidence is sufficient, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, Director of Investigation for Special Crimes, must immediately announce the names of the state officials who collaborated with Samin Tan. Borrowing the proverb, ‘let there be no lies between us’,” he stated. This case previously ensnared Central Kalimantan conglomerate Samin Tan as a suspect. Head of the Kejagung Legal Information Centre, Anang Supriatna, said investigators have gathered several pieces of evidence and identified parties who can be held accountable. “Clearly, at this stage, investigators have delved deeply and secured evidence. The investigation will continue, so there is no need to worry about attempts to eliminate evidence as it has been anticipated by investigators,” Anang said at the Kejagung Legal Information Centre Building in South Jakarta on Monday (30/3/2026). In the investigation process, the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes team has conducted searches at 14 locations. These locations are spread across DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan. Ten locations are in DKI Jakarta and West Java, including the offices of PT Asmin Koalindo Tuhup (AKT), the office of PT Mantimin Coal Mining (MCM) affiliated with PT AKT, and seven residences, including Samin Tan’s home and those of witnesses. Intelligence observer Sri Rajasa stated that investigators must be transparent in revealing which state parties are suspected of involvement in the mining violation case involving Samin Tan. Kejagung is pursuing the alleged corruption case of PT Asmin Koalindo Tuhup (AKT) mining management using the new Criminal Procedure Code. Assets belonging to PT AKT founder Samin Tan are set to be seized.
