Attorney General Orders All Ranks to Reform and Restore Public Trust
Attorney General ST Burhanuddin has urged all members of the Adhyaksa corps to view the various challenges faced by the Prosecutor’s Office as a momentum to rise and restore public trust. He emphasised that the setbacks previously experienced by the institution must serve as a basis for evaluation and reform.
“This is the time for us to rise together, restore trust, return the dignity of the institution, and prove that the prosecution is capable of passing tests to become even stronger. This is the time; the storm must pass,” said Burhanuddin during the ceremony for the 81st Anniversary of the Prosecutor’s Office at the Indonesian Prosecutor’s Training Centre Field, South Jakarta, on Wednesday.
Burhanuddin acknowledged that the journey of the Prosecutor’s Office has not always been smooth. According to him, the law enforcement institution has repeatedly faced challenges from both internal and external factors.
“We know the journey of the Prosecutor’s Office is not always smooth. Challenges come from within and without, testing us repeatedly. We have often faced decline and disappointment,” he stated.
Burhanuddin noted that these various challenges should encourage all ranks to engage in reflection. He called upon the Adhyaksa members to ensure that every step taken remains on the right path and provides benefits to the community.
“Have we reflected and asked ourselves the necessary questions? Are we on the right path? Have we given our best to this community and nation?” he asked.
Burhanuddin asserted that these trials must not cause the Adhyaksa Corps to sink into despair. Instead, the current situation should be used as a momentum for collective improvement.
He argued that the revival of the Prosecutor’s Office cannot depend on a single person, a single policy, or a single generation. All ranks must share the same commitment to strengthening the institution.
Consequently, Burhanuddin requested all Adhyaksa members to strengthen their solidity and solidarity. He believes these two elements are essential capital for the Prosecutor’s Office in performing its duties to serve the public and seekers of justice.
“Experience teaches us one thing: without solidity and solidarity, we will not be able to survive, let alone serve the community and seekers of justice,” he explained.
He also emphasised the importance of maintaining public trust through the integrity and professionalism of all Prosecutor’s Office ranks. Every official, he said, bears the responsibility to protect the image and dignity of the institution.
Furthermore, Burhanuddin warned that the behaviour of every prosecutor will determine the public’s assessment of the Prosecutor’s Office. The attitude, speech, and actions of a prosecutor are seen as a reflection of the institution as a whole.
“Do not let a single disgraceful act ruin the good image we are currently building,” he said.
Attorney General ST Burhanuddin has officially suspended Febrie Adriansyah from his status as a prosecutor after being named a suspect in an alleged money laundering case by ‘Tim 9’.
In response, Prof. Suparji Ahmad stated that individual cases should not weaken the Attorney General’s Office institution and expressed support for Attorney General ST Burhanuddin to continue the fight against corruption. Similarly, the Chairman of PBNU, KH Ahmad Fahrur Rozi, requested that the Attorney General remain consistent in eradicating corruption despite the legal issues surrounding the former Head of the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus).
In a related development, Attorney General ST Burhanuddin has officially inaugurated Kuntadi as the new Jampidsus. Kuntadi has been instructed to focus on internal consolidation, the evaluation of major cases, and maintaining integrity.
