Attorney General ST Burhanuddin has stressed there is no rivalry with National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo following the uproar over a corruption case involving former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah. Burhanuddin said he welcomed the visit from the police force and noted that such meetings were not a new initiative. “Alhamdulillah, I received a visit from my friends in the police force, and this is actually not a new programme, it is an old programme,” he explained. “Friends, do not think we are rivals, that we are versus each other, no. We have known each other personally for a long time, since I became Attorney General and he became National Police Chief,” he added. Burhanuddin stressed that meetings between the two institutions are normal and routine in the context of improving the legal system in Indonesia. “This synergy is necessary because for me, for a prosecutor, a good investigation will result in a good prosecution. A good prosecution will result in a good verdict. It is our obligation, our necessity to synergise,” he said. Meanwhile, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said his visit was also aimed at maintaining synergy and collaboration between the two law enforcement institutions. “It is hoped that the public who need legal services can truly receive the law they require, both in terms of legal certainty and justice,” he said after the meeting. He added that the two institutions also discussed strengthening law enforcement, including the dissemination of the new Criminal Code (KUHP) and Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP). “And going forward, the existing partnership and synergy will continue to be strengthened and enhanced,” he stated. Sigit further mentioned that both institutions would conduct joint educational programmes for prosecutors and police investigators. He said this was to ensure that every step of coordination, particularly within the criminal justice system, could be improved. “Everything we are doing is ultimately to provide a sense of justice for the public who need legal services,” he said.
