Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto emphasised the importance of strengthening regional collaboration in addressing global challenges while attending the Special Summit of the Brunei Darussalam–Indonesia–Malaysia–Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) in Cebu, Philippines, on Thursday.

An official statement from the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta on Thursday indicated that President Prabowo highlighted the urgency of more adaptive and impactful cooperation, particularly in the areas of energy and food resilience.

In opening his remarks, President Prabowo expressed appreciation to Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for the warm welcome and his leadership in the forum.

The Head of State assessed that the BIMP-EAGA Special Summit was being held at a highly significant moment amid escalating global challenges.

“This Special Summit arrives at a very critical time. The challenges we face demand closer and more effective collaboration among us,” stated President Prabowo.

According to the President, cooperation within the sub-region must become more adaptive, impactful, and responsive to the continuously changing global dynamics.

“With that spirit, BIMP-EAGA must continue to evolve. BIMP-EAGA must be more adaptive, more impactful, and more responsive to the needs of our people,” he said.

President Prabowo also emphasised that the primary priority for member countries at present is to protect the safety and lives of their people.

President Prabowo noted that the BIMP-EAGA 2035 vision has provided clear direction, but the next challenge is to ensure concrete implementation.

President Prabowo simultaneously conveyed the message that regional solidarity and cooperation are the key for ASEAN to remain resilient in facing the increasingly complex global dynamics.
