Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Ahmad Muzani recounted his attendance at the funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in Mashhad, where he delivered a message from President Prabowo Subianto to the Iranian nation.

“Pak Prabowo conveyed his respects to Iran’s leaders and government, and extended his greetings to the people and nation of Iran,” said Muzani after a courtesy visit to the leadership of the Supreme Court at the Supreme Court building in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (14 July 2026).

Muzani related that during his visit to Iran he was received directly by the Speaker of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, to whom he conveyed Indonesia’s deep condolences.

“Alhamdulillah, we visited Iran and were received by the Parliament Speaker, Mohammad Ghalibaf, who serves as the chief negotiator between Iran and the United States. We conveyed to Dr Mohammad Ghalibaf the warm greetings of all the people and nation of Indonesia as well as the Government of the Republic of Indonesia,” Muzani said.

“We expressed the deep condolences of the Indonesian people and nation over the passing of a leader deeply beloved by the Iranian people. We share in this grief,” he added.

The senior Gerindra Party politician said Indonesia shared the sense of loss felt by the Iranian people for their beloved leader. At the meeting, Muzani emphasised that Indonesia loves peace.

“We felt how deeply saddened the Iranian people are at losing a leader they loved so dearly. Therefore, the Indonesian people and nation pray that the Iranian people can remain steadfast in facing this tragedy. We also stated that the Indonesian nation is one that truly loves peace,” he explained.

Muzani expressed confidence that Iran would prioritise the best solutions amid the uncertain situation in the Middle East, and expressed hope that the ongoing war there could be brought to an end.

“Even in these very difficult circumstances, we still hope that a solution can be found to ease these war tensions. We trust His Excellency Mohammad Ghalibaf to take action — with his thoughts, words, deeds and signature — to stop the war. That is the message from the entire Indonesian people and nation,” he said.

Earlier, an Indonesian delegation departed for Iran in the early hours of Friday (10 July) to pay final respects and convey condolences over the death of Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei. The delegation’s dispatch was a direct assignment from President Prabowo Subianto.

The Indonesian delegation comprised MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani, Foreign Minister Sugiono, Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulara (PBNU) KH Yahya Cholil Staquf, Chairman of the Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah Prof Dr Syafiq A. Mughni, and Director General of Asia-Pacific and African Affairs at the Foreign Ministry, Santo Darmosumarto.
