Attending BRICS Summit, Prabowo: We Do Not Like Being Dictated by Certain Powers, Indonesia Must Be Independent

New Delhi, VIVA – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto attended a closed session themed “Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism” as part of the 2026 BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, Republic of India, on Saturday, 12 September 2026.

The session was attended by leaders of BRICS member states to discuss the strengthening of inclusive global governance and multilateral cooperation.

In his address, President Prabowo first expressed his appreciation to the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, Narendra Modi, as the host and current BRICS Chair, for the reception and hospitality extended to the Indonesian delegation.

President Prabowo also expressed his respect for Prime Minister Modi’s leadership in presiding over BRICS.

“Allow me first to express my gratitude to the host and this year’s BRICS Chair for the warm welcome and extraordinary hospitality shown to our delegation. I would also like to show my appreciation for the great leadership demonstrated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in leading BRICS,” said President Prabowo.

President Prabowo noted that Indonesia’s participation in BRICS is an honour, given that Indonesia is a new member of the organisation. Prabowo also expressed his thanks to the BRICS founders for the rapid acceptance of Indonesia into the organisation, which represents a significant portion of the world’s population.

“It is a great honour for us to be here and join you all at this Summit. We are new members of BRICS, and we wish to thank all the BRICS founders who have accepted us so quickly as members of this great new organisation, which represents half of the human population,” said President Prabowo.

Furthermore, President Prabowo emphasised that unity among BRICS nations will strengthen the position and resilience of each respective country. According to President Prabowo, a nation’s strength fundamentally begins with the ability to meet the basic needs of its people, ranging from food and energy to education and opportunities to improve welfare.

“By uniting, we also become stronger. Strength always begins from within, alongside our people—through our ability to meet their food needs, ensure the energy supplies they require, educate our children, and provide them with opportunities to live prosperously. That is how we build a resilient and truly independent nation,” he stated.
