Attempted Murder Suspect in Malaka Arrested in Kupang
The Criminal Investigation Directorate’s Resmob team of the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Regional Police has arrested a man suspected of involvement in an attempted murder case in Malaka Regency. The man, identified by the initials ANB (22), was arrested in the Oepoi area of Kupang City after being on the run for some time.
Director of General Criminal Investigation at the NTT Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Sigit Haryono, stated that the arrest was made in support of the investigation being handled by the Malaka Police.
“The Resmob team conducted an investigation after receiving information about the suspected perpetrator’s whereabouts in Kupang City. Following surveillance and sweeping, the individual was successfully apprehended,” Sigit said on Wednesday (24/6/2026).
Sigit explained that the case involving ANB originated from an alleged attempted murder that occurred on 7 April 2026 at around 11:45 p.m. Central Indonesian Time at the intersection of Jalan Raya Pasar Beiabuk, Wehali Village, Central Malaka District, Malaka.
“The matter has been reported to the Malaka Police and is currently still under investigation. Police suspect ANB was involved in the criminal act before eventually fleeing to Kupang City,” Sigit stated.
The team obtained information that ANB was in the vicinity of Jalan Bajawa, Oepoi Subdistrict, behind the Oebobo Terminal. “Police then conducted location mapping and surveillance to confirm the suspected perpetrator’s whereabouts,” he said.
From the investigation results, ANB was spotted in the area around the Muhammadiyah University of Kupang campus in Kayu Putih Subdistrict while refilling a water gallon.
“That information was then followed up with sweeping at several points, including boarding houses around Oebobo,” he said.
After conducting a search since Tuesday (23/6/2026) evening, the Resmob team finally located ANB on Wednesday morning at around 10:00 a.m. Central Indonesian Time.
He confirmed that the man, originally from Letemnasi Nunkolo, South Central Timor Regency (TTS), was then taken to the NTT Regional Police Criminal Investigation Directorate Headquarters for further examination.
“We will continue to assist police ranks throughout the NTT region in hunting down criminals who attempt to evade the legal process,” Sigit said.
He stated that the police are committed to ensuring that every suspected criminal offender is arrested to account for their actions.
“Every person suspected of involvement in a criminal act and attempting to flee will continue to be pursued by us to account for their actions in accordance with applicable law,” Sigit concluded.
