Attempted Child Abduction Causes Alarm in Maguwoharjo, Sleman; Details of Victim's Condition Revealed
Police are investigating an attempted child abduction that occurred at Nurul Fallah Mosque in Maguwoharjo, Sleman. Details of the victim’s condition in the alleged abduction case have emerged.
AKP Salamun, Head of Public Relations at Jogja Police Resort, explained the incident took place on Tuesday, 10 March at approximately 20:00 WIB following Tarawih prayers. At that time, the victim, a 9-year-old girl, was on the mosque’s porch waiting for the rain to subside.
“The victim was then approached by an unknown man who had exited a black box truck that stopped on the road in front of the mosque. The man invited the victim to take a walk and offered to buy her snacks,” Salamun stated in his account on Saturday, 14 March 2026.
Salamun said the victim refused the invitation and called out to someone passing nearby. Upon realising another person had arrived, the man immediately left the location.
“The victim did not sustain any injuries or violence, though she was frightened,” he said.
Currently, according to Salamun, police have been gathering witness statements, taking statements from the victim and her parents, and reviewing CCTV footage in the surrounding area to verify the incident.
“Sleman Police Resort urges the public to remain calm but heighten vigilance, particularly in supervising children in the surrounding areas,” he concluded.
