Attacks from Iran and Lebanon Trigger Blaring Sirens Across Israel
Several explosions and sirens were heard from Jerusalem, with warnings also heard in Tel Aviv, central Israel, Haifa and several northern areas. ‘IDF identified missiles launched from Iran toward the territory of the State of Israel. The defence system is operating to intercept the threat,’ the military said four times throughout the day and into the afternoon, AFP reported on Thursday (5 March 2026). In a statement issued shortly after the first attack was announced, the military said that ‘several launches… from Lebanon toward Israeli territory were successfully intercepted’ after sirens sounded in central Israel. This new attack comes on the fifth day of the Middle East war, which began on Saturday with a joint US-Israeli strike against Iran. Lebanon was drawn into the war when Hizbullah, Tehran-supported group, launched attacks on Israel to ‘avenge’ the killing of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, triggering ongoing Israeli air operations. Emergency services Magen David Adom (MDA) said they evacuated two people to hospitals in central Israel with minor injuries, including ‘a man around 30 years old with shrapnel wounds and another victim with blast injuries’. Police said in a statement that officers were deployed to five locations in the Jerusalem area ‘where various projectiles intercepted have fallen, causing only damage’. The military said that ‘the majority of launches’ from Lebanon had been intercepted. MDA said that since the war began its teams had treated 414 casualties, including ‘10 deaths, 2 serious injuries, 6 moderate injuries, and 396 minor injuries’.
