Attackers of Andrie Yunus Could Be Tried in General Court
Commission III of the House of Representatives, during its meeting on Wednesday, 18 March 2026, urged the Indonesian National Armed Forces and the Indonesian National Police to collaborate in pursuing the perpetrators of the acid splashing against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. One of the conclusions from the DPR meeting was to recommend that TNI-Polri pursue general courts. General courts refer to the provisions of Article 170 of Law No. 20 of 2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code. “Commission III of the DPR RI urges the National Police and the TNI to continue synergising in handling the acid splashing case against Mr Andrie Yunus,” said Chairman of Commission III DPR Habiburokhman, reading out the meeting conclusions at the DPR Complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday. Commission III DPR has also formed a working committee that will oversee the revelation of the intellectual actors behind the attack on Andrie. Member of Commission III DPR Safaruddin stated that this working committee will serve as a supervisor for the work of Polri-TNI, which has revealed leaks of the identities of the differing perpetrators. After the 2026 Eid holiday, the Commission III DPR working committee will coordinate directly with law enforcement apparatus, the victim’s lawyers, and the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK). “We will ask all parties later to provide input, we will hold opinion-hearing meetings with all parties to encourage everything to be uncovered,” said Safaruddin on Wednesday last. According to the PDIP politician, the general court mechanism can be pursued because there are indications that the perpetrators originate from the military and civilians. He claimed that the Commission III DPR working committee will work until this case is uncovered and has no specific timeframe. Previously, Andrie Yunus, who often criticises the TNI Law and the expansion of military roles in civilian spaces, was splashed with acid while on Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Central Jakarta, on Thursday night, 12 March 2026. Andrie was splashed with a dangerous solution by two unidentified persons. The two rode a motorbike coming from the opposite direction to Andrie. The corrosive chemical liquid hit the right side of Andrie’s body, such as the eyes, face, chest, and hands. Part of the victim’s clothes also melted due to the acid. Medical examination results showed Andrie suffered serious burns covering 24 percent. Andrie is currently undergoing treatment at the National Central General Hospital Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM). Metro Jaya Police identified two liquid splashers with initials BHC and MAK. Photos of the two were displayed at a press conference at the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, on Wednesday. Meanwhile, on the same day, the TNI Military Police Centre detained four members of the Strategic Intelligence Agency or BAIS TNI suspected of being the attackers on Andrie. The four have initials NDP, SL, BHW, and ES from the air and sea branches. NDP is recorded as having the rank of captain, then SL and BHW with the rank of first lieutenant, while ES is still a second sergeant. Director of General Criminal Investigation Metro Jaya Police Commissioner Iman Imanuddin said the police will collaborate with TNI to follow up on findings from investigation facts and investigations.
