Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Baqer Ghalibaf has sworn to retaliate for the deaths of children killed in the United States and Israel’s attack, saying the retaliation would continue until ‘our last breath’. His pledge came in the wake of a tragic attack on a school in southern Iran, as he vowed to seek justice for the innocent children who perished. In a post on X, Ghalibaf highlighted the words of an emotional mother whose child died in the assault. The senior legislator expressed unwavering support for the victims’ families and stressed that the Iranian people would not stop until the blood of their innocent children was avenged. ‘We are the avengers of the blood of Iran’s innocent and oppressed children until our last breath,’ he wrote, reported by Iranian media Press TV on Wednesday, 4 March 2026.

The post appeared as the country continued to mourn the victims of the US-Israel attack on Shajareh Tayyebeh School in Minab, Hormozgan Province, which killed 165 children and injured around 100 others.

On Tuesday morning local time, residents of Minab took to the streets to mourn their losses. The mourners, many of them carrying small coffins and photographs of the victims, gathered in the city for funeral processions.

The attack occurred on Saturday when Israel and the United States began launching strikes against Iran.

The two-storey building that housed the boys’ and girls’ school led to widespread destruction; thick smoke rose from the rubble as emergency crews searched for survivors.

The scale of the tragedy has drawn widespread condemnation from Iranian officials.

The Minab prosecutor described the attack as ‘criminal’ and ‘barbaric’, emphasising that the victims included not only children but also teaching staff and parents.
